Rubber Chicken Day

Here are some photos from today  - Rubber Chicken Day.  Our very own holiday.  The rules are in the words of the song (sung to the tune of "You are my Sunshine"):

You are my chicken, my rubber chicken
You bring us presents in July
We have some milkshakes and some cheeseburgers
Happy Rubber Chicken Day!

PS: Doesn't Mateo look like such a "guy" in the last picture?  Where did my baby boy go?!?

perspitctive

Karis is a drooler.  She could rival that large ugly dog from that one movie... the one where the dog drools.  You know the one.  Her bib is always drenched to the point where it would be effective in the fight against forest fires.

So after church today I was holding her and feeling icky because the sodden bib was smushed up against my shirt.  I turned her around facing out instead.  Mateo came up and gave her a cuddle, rubbing his face against her yucky bib.  "Ahhhh!", he said, "That feels good!" (It was a hot day).  "How does that spit feel on your cheek?" I asked, guessing that maybe he didn't realize why the bib was so cool.  "So nice Mommy!", he said, without even blinking .... I guess it's all in your perspitctive....

She's Rolling!

She's rolling over already! Not quite getting that superfluous arm out from underneath her enough to get up once she's over.... but I think it still counts.  She rolls from back to front, turning right.  My mom swears she's almost crawling, but then my mom thinks she's speaking English as well.... ("Did you hear her? She said 'Mama'!")

First Lake Day

Here is Karis going to the lake for the first time.  She only put her toes in the water.  The swimsuit was just for show.  Next time I will take her in deeper.

sippy cup

Karis drank water from a sippy cup tonight.  I don't know why I even tried.... it was a long day and I wasn't thinking.  It was Mateo's bedtime sippy.   I was trying (in vain, mostly) to get the boys to go to bed.  She was gnawing on my shoulder, looking for a nipple.  Since the sippy was in my hand I stuck it in her mouth.  She loved it.  Didn't even dribble much.  Didn't choke.  I didn't think a 3-month-old would do well with a sippy, but maybe she is weird.  Or maybe my milk shoots out really fast like a sippy cup and she's just used to it.

the dress

I was just drooling over this dress in the store before Karis was born.  Couldn't justify spending $32 on it though.  Then it went on 70% off clearance.  So here she is!

Phone safety

California has decided that it's illegal to drive while talking on a hand-held cell phone.  Because of the danger.  So yesterday I had to hold the phone in one hand while I held the earpiece up to my ear with the other hand.   I steered the car with my little finger.   Big improvement in safety, I tell you.

3 month old stats

Karis had a checkup at the pediatrician yesterday.  She is 13 lbs. 4 oz.  She is 24 inches tall (well, that would be long, I guess, as she doesn't do a lot of standing yet).  She had 4 shots, but only cried for the last two.  She didn't cry at the hospital when they took her blood either.  Although she did scream bloody murder when anyone changed her diaper.  Silly girl.  She wears a size 3 diaper already and at the moment is wearing 6-12 month pants that are too small (although her 3-6 month size onesie fits fine).  I will probably forget to put these stats in the baby book (that will be a project for when I retire) so I'm hoping they'll be safe here in my blog.

nope!

It wasn't a fluke.  She did it again this evening.

cock-a-doodle-doo

I'm crowing.  And it may well have been an accident.  My almost-3-month-old peed on the potty this evening.   I told her to do it and she immediately screwed up her little face, grunted and peed.  Good job Karis!
